Our Story

Where We Came From. Why It Matters.

In 2013, Mitch Avnet founded Compliance Risk Concepts on a premise that sounds simple but proved rare: that financial services firms deserve compliance support from professionals who have actually done the work; practitioners who have sat across from regulators, made consequential judgment calls, and been accountable for the programs they built.

Former CCOs. Former regulators. Senior compliance executives who had spent their careers inside the institutions we would go on to serve. That firsthand experience became the firm’s defining characteristic and its non-negotiable hiring standard.

In June 2025, CRC acquired Oyster Consulting, bringing together deep expertise in broker-dealer operations, RegTech, clearing and custody, research compliance, and financial services strategy alongside CRC’s compliance program management practice. The result is a fully integrated practice with the breadth to serve financial institutions across every dimension of their regulatory and operational complexity.

CRC Oyster is the result: a broader capability set with the same founding principle.
