How Oyster Consulting began
Buddy Doyle, Rob Hall, and Patrick Dennis founded Oyster Consulting in 2008, at the depth of the financial crisis, on a vision of a different kind of consulting firm: one staffed by industry professionals rather than career consultants. They had spent their own careers inside the business, holding senior leadership roles across operations, finance, technology, compliance, and the private client group at Wachovia Securities. They built Oyster Consulting around that same profile, recruiting former C-suite executives, regulators, managers, and supervisors from the largest and most complex firms in wealth management. Over the next seventeen years, Oyster Consulting became a trusted partner to broker-dealers and registered investment advisers nationwide across an unusually broad platform: compliance program development and testing, branch and mock examinations, AML and cybersecurity, operations and trading desk optimization, finance and accounting, technology and vendor selection, strategy and succession planning, M&A and clearing conversions, outsourced CCO and FinOp services, and its own governance, risk, and compliance software offering.
What the acquisition means for Oyster clients
Oyster Consulting was acquired by Compliance Risk Concepts in June 2025. The two firms had been built on the same conviction from opposite ends of the same problem, Oyster from the operating side of wealth management and Compliance Risk Concepts from the compliance and regulatory risk side, which made the combination one of range rather than overlap. For Oyster clients, every service line continues under CRC Oyster, staffed by the same consultants, now with access to a substantially deeper regulatory bench and a client base that extends beyond broker-dealers and RIAs into investment banking, private funds, fintech, and digital assets.
