Compliance Risk Concepts Is Now CRC Oyster

How Compliance Risk Concepts began

In 2013, Mitch Avnet founded Compliance Risk Concepts (CRC) on a premise that sounds simple but proved rare: the most valuable compliance expertise comes from professionals who have held the roles they advise on. Mitch had sat in the CCO chair himself, most recently as Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at Lincoln Financial Group, and knew how hard it was to find advisors who understood the business as well as the rulebook. He built Compliance Risk Concepts around people with the same history: former CCOs, former regulators, and senior compliance executives drawn from the institutions the firm would go on to serve. Compliance Risk Concepts became a full-service compliance risk management partner to broker-dealers, SEC and state-registered investment advisers, investment banks, private funds, fintech shops, and digital asset firms. Its work spanned outsourced and fractional CCO support, program design and testing, AML, examination and enforcement readiness, FinOp and principal services, research supervisory analyst coverage, independent due diligence, and expert witness engagements, delivered on an ongoing, project, or as-needed basis.

Why Compliance Risk Concepts acquired Oyster Consulting

By 2025, Compliance Risk Concepts’ clients were bringing the firm problems that no longer stopped at the compliance function. Regulatory pressure was landing on operations, trading, technology, and the way firms were actually built, and answering those questions well required practitioners who had run those functions rather than compliance professionals reasoning about them from the outside. Compliance Risk Concepts acquired Oyster Consulting in June 2025 to close that gap directly. The transaction doubled the firm’s size, scope, and professional capacity, and it did so with almost no redundancy: Oyster’s operational, trading, and transaction expertise sat alongside Compliance Risk Concepts’ regulatory bench rather than duplicating it. What resulted is a genuinely full-service support function. CRC Oyster covers the entire arc of a regulatory matter and the operational infrastructure beneath it, from registration through examination, from a clearing conversion through a change of control, and from a gap analysis through the work of remediating it, with one integrated team accountable across every phase.
